A visionary leader and expert, Henry Ben - Smith has made significant strides on promoting sustainable small scale mining practices and social responsibility in Ghana’s small scale mining sector. As founder and Chairman of Coastal Zone Small Scale Mining Association, Henry Ben - Smith has spearheaded innovative initiatives to transform the small-scale mining landscape through registration of illegal miners in to cooperatives, and groups on Newmont Akyem Project in the eastern region, and formerly Owere Mines, now Northern Ashanti gold mines in Konongo, under the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources special initiative by the then Minister Cecilia Banaman.

Under his leadership, Henry Ben - Smith has facilitated a landmark intervention between large- and small-scalemining companies to cede off areas for the transformation of illegal miners to be absorbed into government framework for sustainable development. He is also a gold smith, and a member of the federation of Association of Ghanian Jewellers. Mr. Henry Ben – Smith, is also the founder and CEO of H & S Mining Group and Investment Limited, and general secretary for Asante Akyem Small Scale Miners Society Limited, also in Konongo. He is also the Managing Director of Unity Trade Capital, Ghana Limited. His wealth of experiences transcends Ghana, such as Bahrain, for a United Nation sponsored conference, dub ’First Entrepreneurial, and Financial Forum, UK, Italy and USA. Mr. Henry Ben – Smith’s main current focus in on advocacy for protection and development of the designated areas in and around the Coastal Zone in collaboration with District Assemblies and Ghana Geological Survey Authority.
